Water Is Life Digital Art Project

In my travels around the world, there is one thing that I hear over and over, “Water is life.” Granted, unclean water can lead to sickness and death, but the lack of water is even more detrimental.  Not only does our body need water to live, but it is also instrumental for growing crops, keeping animals, cooking, bathing/hygiene, etc.  Rain and a continuous source of water brings life to a community.  Yesterday on my lunch break, as I listened to the torrential rain pounding on the roof of our office,  I wanted to complain until I was reminded of its importance.  I decided to be fix my mood, get creative and share this concept visually.

The creative process started on my iPad using the Paper by FiftyThree app.  The overall concept started with water, so I wanted to create a watercolor look and feel for the image.  That’s why I chose Paper- it has a great watercolor brush feature.  Still unsure what the final would look like, I emailed the photo to myself and opened it in Photoshop to start playing around with text and enhance the drawing.  I used free watercolor brushes in Photoshop to add a background that represents a colorful sky over water and treated the text to look like it was wet.

At this point I was about to call it done and post it to Instagram, but as I thought about the description, I realized that I wanted use photos of people who I met who benefitted from Operation Blessing clean water solutions.  After all, they are some of the people who told me told me, “Water Is Life.”  I started adding them into the drop of water and then went crazy adding additional photos of people, sky, and water to bring the image to life.  Watch the video to see everything that went into the final image.

Please help me spread the message – Water Is Life.
