I had the amazing opportunity to take a family vacation to Arizona and was able to spend the day at the Grand Canyon. After spending time with my family there this afternoon, my wife arranged for me to go back on my own to shoot the sunset. It was a breathtaking experience. I’ve travelled all over the world, but can’t think of any place that wowed me as much as the Grand Canyon.

The skies were beautiful and full of clouds today, so I had high hopes for a beautiful sunset and was not disappointed. Apparently a lot of other people had the same idea and the line of cars checking in to get into the park took 30 minutes. First I tried the Desert View drive, but didn’t love the spots I was able to get to quickly. Finally I broke down and asked a private tour guide who was giving info to his group.

I caught the Orange Bus to Yaki Point and tried to get a good spot, but there were people everywhere. I saw a young couple on a ledge below the main viewing area and found a way to get there. They were leaving as I approached, so I had the whole perch to myself as nobody else wanted to make the climb..lucky me. It was a beautiful spot to capture an unobstructed view of the sunset.
